Manipur People's Party held a condolence meeting to mourn the death of Yumnam Yaima.
A press release issued today by general secretary of the party K Krishnachandra Singh stated that MPP president N Sovakiran Singh presided the meeting where MPP senior vice president O Jugindro Singh spoke about the contributions of late Yumnam Yaima .Jugindro Singh said that Yaima was one of the founding members of MPP when it was established on December 26, 1968.He was also the party president from February 16, 1991 to February 8, 1996 and the lone MP for the party in the Parliament.
During his MP days, Central Agricultural University was established in Manipur and the Manipuri language was included in the 8th schedule of the India Constitution.
A two minute silence was observed and the party flag was lowered half way and it will stay lowered for the next three days as a sign of mourning, it added.
