Shots fired at Irabot's residence

Suspected supporters of Congress reportedly fired several rounds of bullets at the residence of MLA Yumkham Erabot, at Khurai Ahongei, Imphal East yesterday night.
However, no one was injured in the attack.
MLA Irabot is contesting in the 11th State Legislative Assembly election from Khurai Assembly Constituency on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket.
Meanwhile, a sit-in-protest was staged at Khurai today in protest against the attack.
According to Loukrakpam Ngangbi, president of Khurai Ahongei Nupi Lup, Congress supporters fired three/four rounds of bullets at the MLA's residence yesterday night at around 10.30.
She claimed that the attackers also took away a boy who was later rescued by police.
She suspected that the gun attack might have been carried out to malign the image of MLA at the time of election.
Ngangbi said that it is the right of the electorates to decide whom to elect in the election.
On the other hand, women folks staged a sit-in-protest at Chingmeirong Mamang today against the assault on a BJP supporter by Congress supporters yesterday at around 11 pm.
Speaking to newspersons, Deepak Kumar Kshetri (40), a resident of Chingmeirong Nepali Basti said that he was coming on a Maruti 800 car along Ayangpalli road to meet a patient at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) when 30-40 people stopped him and asked to come out of the vehicle along the road.
The victim contended that he was charged with being a supporter of BJP and slapped him hard.
He urged the authority concerned to take up appropriate action against the assailants involved in the assault.
