Traditional Shumang Leela festival to be held

The Manipur State Shumang Leela Council (MSSLC) is all set to organise the first ever Traditional Shumang Leela Festival based on patriotism in relation with the state of Manipur.
Speaking to media persons in this regard, S Hemanta, Secretary of MSSLC informed that the festival which is to be based on patriotism in relation with the state of Manipur, though the plays would be based on life and work of Kings who have ruled Manipur till King Bhagyachandra.
He explained that the plays would portray the social and economic lives of the people during those days.
The festival is a move to highlight the real history of the state to the people.
As it would take some time in organizing the festival, the public may enjoy the festival most probably during Ningtham Kumhei in December this year.
Furthermore, Hemanta informed that the festival would be organised in the form of a competition and the winners would be given cash prizes.
To encourage upcoming artists of the state, MSSLC along with Theatre Mirror would also be organising a Shumang Leela Workshop from June 1 next, he announced, adding that at the end of the workshop a play, Mareibak Ningba Koireng Sana to be directed by Wareppa Naba would be produced.
President of MSSLC, Gunachandra, who was also present at the press conference, said that there would be no romance in the plays to be taking part in the festival.
He further informed that the plays performed during the festival would be recorded.
He also highlighted the importance of media support in this regard and appealed for the same.
