Sharp rise in new cases, caseload increases

Imphal, January 07 2022: The state saw sharp rise in the number of daily new positive cases of Covid-19 in the last two days which also led to a significant spike in the active caseload.

On Saturday, government bulletins reported 48 new eases out of 1967 samples tested, registering a positivity rate of 2.44 per cent.

Friday reported 59 new positive cases put of 2069 samples tested with a positivity rate of 2.85 per cent against 27 fresh cases with 1.38 per cent positivity rate recorded on Thursday.

No death case was reported on Saturday while one patient died on Friday, taking number of fatalities to 2009 .

With the discharge of only 18 patients from home isolation (3), RIMS (1), JNIMS (4) and CCCs (10) in the last 24 hours, the active caseload rose to 346 out of which 74 (21.39 per cent) are in home isolation.

There is no updated information on bed availability in hospitals and Covid Care Centres.

Out of the 16 districts, 10 reported fresh Covid cases on Saturday.

So far, the state has recorded 96,612 positive cases and 1635 fatalities since the beginning of the second wave of the pandemic.

The current month has reported 224 new positive cases and 7 fatalities.

The weekly number of new cases and fatalities have also risen to 224 and 7 respectively.

According to official reports, 42 people (22 male & 20 female) out of the 48 fresh cases are from among the general population while six are personnel of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) whose samples were confirmed at JNIMS (9) and other testing centres (39).The positive cases from among the general population are from Imphal East (6), Imphal West (13), Thoubal (4), Bishnupur (4), Kakching (1), Senapati (1), Kangpokpi (1), Chandel (3) and Churachandpur (9) .

The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 1,26,012 (general population -1,21,536 and CAPF personnel - 4,476) .

Number of recovered cases is 1,23,657 (general population - 1,19,228 and CAPF personnel - 4,429) and number of active cases is 346 (general population - 304 and CAPF personnel - 42) .

The recovery rate has come down to 98.13 per cent.

A total of 222 D-type and 5 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different healthcare facilities in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 4638 Covid vaccine doses were administered on Friday which took the cumulative number of vaccinated people to 13,35,444 including 10,02,171 fully vaccinated individuals.

As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (44,237), Imphal East (27,996), Thoubal (9519), Churachandpur (10,216), Kangpokpi (2796), Tamenglong (3285), Bishnupur (9252), Senapati (2255), Ukhrul (3015), Kakching (6458), Chandel (2373), Noney (1079), Tengnoupal (1079), Jiribam (1031), Kamjong (957) and Pherzawl (464) .

Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (674), Imphal East (481), Thoubal (179), Churachandpur (163), Kangpokpi (63), Tamenglong (14), Bishnupur (195), Senapati (10), Ukhrul (44), Kakching (116), Chandel (4), Noney (4), Tengnoupal (13), Jiribam (7), Kamjong (5) and Pherzawl (0) .

Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 40,610 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 25,152 CPM.

Test rate has improved to 4,74,569 tests per million population against the national average of 4,90,399 TPM.

Case fatality rate stands at 1.59 per cent.

In the past 24 hours, only 1967 samples were tested and the single day positivity rate was 2.44 per cent while the cumulative positivity came down to 8.56 per cent.

CM N Biren credited for development in state DIPR/CHRONICLE NEWS SERVICE IMPHAL: Union minister for Home Affairs and minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah on Friday inaugurated and laid foundation stones of altogether 29 Development Projects at City Convention, Palace Compound through virtual mode in the presence of chief minister N Biren Singh.

The total cost of the projects of various departments is Rs 2,450 crore.

Addressing the event, Amit Shah acknowledged the state government under the leadership of N Biren and noted that it is replacing the three I's - Instability, Insurgency and Inequality, which was prevalent in the state earlier, by three more I's with Innovation, Infrastructure and Integration.

He said Manipur will be a drug-free state if the government under Biren comes back in the next term.

The union home minister also congratulated and lauded the Biren-led government for its achievements and overall development in the state while crediting Biren and his council of ministers for working hard to bring development in every nook and corner of the state during his five years of tenure.

He noted that bandh, blockade and violence has significantly decreased and the state is stepping towards overall peace and development.

Recalling the implementation of the Inner Line permit System (ILP) which was a long cherished dream of the people of Manipur, Amit Shah said the central government has been focusing for the promotion and development of the North East regions.

He also added that the recent rechristening of 'Mount Harriet' in Andaman and Nicobar Island to 'Mount Manipur' as a tribute to the then Maharaja of Manipur, Kullachandra and other freedom fighters, will help tourists understand the history of Manipur that has remained unrecognised for the past 75 years.

It is very fortunate that the nation is celebrating 75 years of Independence and Manipur is celebrating 50 years of Statehood, Amit Shah said and added that the present government in the state has taken up lots of developmental works.

The projects inaugurated by the home minister included three under MOVCDNER, four road and bridge projects under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, four Water Supply Projects, 47 projects under Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram, Integrated tourist Destinations at Longmai and Jiribam, two projects under NEC- International Students Hostel at MU and Multi-Purpose Cultural Hall at Longmai, Transit Accommodations at Paomata and Ukhrul, 75 Tube well under PMKSY-HKKPGW, five Animal Husbandry projects with GoI/NEC funding, construction of state Hydrological Data Centre, Lamphel, two projects under Khelo India, RSETI, Kakching, eight projects for Health Infrastructure, construction of Police Memorial at 1st MR and Annexe Court Building in Bishnupur District Court Complex.

The union minister also laid foundation stones for 100-bedded COVID hospital at Kakching, construction of Olympian Park at Sangaithel, installation of flood lighting at Luwangsangbam Cricket Stadium, District Court Complex (Noney), District Court Complex (Kakching), rejuvenation of Lamphelpat Water Body to Alleviate Urban Flooding providing sustainable water sources for Imphal City and promoting Eco Tourism, Integrated Sewerage System for Imphal City Phase-II, Augmentation of Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium, Development of Sports Complex in 7 districts under PMJVK, Development of Hunar Hubs in three districts under PMJVK, Infrastructure Development for Shirui festival under PMJVK, Bio-remediation of five water bodies and improvement of surroundings of two water bodies at Thangapat and setting up of Manipur Technology Innovation Hub in PPP mode with Kalinga Institute of Technology.

Chief minister N Biren expressed his immense gratefulness to central government for taking up many developmental projects covering various sectors like connectivity, tourism, water supply, healthcare, sports, education, etc., in the state over the past five years.

He said Manipur has been making all efforts to tackle the COVID pandemic in the past two years.

He also stated that 23.22 lakh vaccinations has been done so far and vaccination for 15-18 years age group started with 1,107 children already inoculated so far.

Under the vision of Sab ka Saath, Sab ka VTkas, Sab ka Vishwas, Sab ka Prayas, various flagship programmes has been implemented in Manipur towards inclusive development.

To help poor families with access to cooking gas and empowerment of women and protect their health, 1.59 lakh LPG connections have been distributed under the Ujjwala Scheme in Manipur.

Further 19,083 free connections have already been given under Ujjwala 2.0 since its launch on August 10, 2021.Under Ujala Scheme, 4,18,484 LED bulbs has been distributed while 9016 beneficiaries have availed loans under PM SVANidhi to street vendors adversely impacted by the pandemic, elaborated the CM.

He continued that since the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission coverage of functional household tap connections for rural household in the state has improved tremendously.

Meanwhile, 3,85,311 eligible beneficiaries have received their Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yajana card and 46,332 beneficiaries have been treated free of cost worth Rs 56 crore in empanelled hospitals across the country under PMJAY.

In addition, 75,555 beneficiaries not covered under PMJAY have been treated free of cost worth 75 crores in empanelled hospitals under Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang.

"Manipur has also seen significant improvement in its connectivity infrastructure.

Since 2017, National Highway projects worth Rs 12,616 crore covering 807 km have been sanctioned in the state.

To support farmers in procuring inputs to ensure proper crop health and yield, 6,18,668 farmers have been benefitted under Pradhan Mantra Kisan Samman Nidhi," he added.

Union minister of State for External Affairs and Education Dr RK Ranjan, ministers Letpao Haokip, Awangbou Newmai, S Rajen Singh, Vungzagin Valte, Th Satyabrata Singh and O Lukhoi Singh; MP Dr Lorho S Pfoze (Lok Sabha), MP Leishemba Sanajaoba (Rajya Sabha), MC Mary Kom (Rajya Sabha) and chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar also attended the event along with MLAs, high ranking officials of civil and police, various government departments and invitees.

As a part of the programme, a visual presentation highlighting the achievements ofthe state government was also screened.
