Imphal, July 06 2019:
Condemning alleged inaction of police even after it had reported a 'crime', Kshetrigao Mamang Leikai Muslim Chanura Organisation (KMLMCO) today asserted that its members were threatened by an individual while conducting drive against drug abuse.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held at Kshetrigao Makha Ward No 4, secretary of KMLMCO, Aribam Thoibi said that volunteers of Yumkhaibam Athletics Development Association, Kshetrigao and KMLMCO have been conducting antidrugs abuse drive from June 23 at Sabal Leikai, Kshetrigao Maning Leikai and Kshetrigao Makha Leikai etc.
Over 300 drugs users were rounded up and many of them have been admitted to rehabilitation centre at Chingmeirong, said Thoibi.
While continuing the drive, one individual threatened the volunteers using a sharp weapon and even told them not to come out on the street, Thoibi alleged and claimed that Imphal East police was informed about the incident immediately.
Even after the incident was reported, police never showed up, Thoibi said condemning the police of their inaction.
Such action of the police will encourage drug abusers, Thoibi said while appealing police to perform their duties and do the needful for public order and welfare.
