Ambulance service for mothers, infants launched

For the first time in Manipur, an ambulance service exclusively for mothers and infants was launched today at the office of Heirang Info, Lamlong Bazaar.
Ng Bijoy, MLA Khurai A/C as the chief guest of the function launched the service named 102 Ambulance Service for Mother and Infants.
Director of State Health Society, Dr O Ibomcha was the functional president while Director of Family Welfare Services Dr K Rajo and Director of AYUSH Dr K Lokendro were the guests of honour.
The ambulance service can be accessed by dialling 102 .
The ambulance service initiated by the Health Services would be operated on the model of public-private partnership under Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK).
The main objective of the service is to reduce infant mortality rate in the State, said Dr K Lokendro.
"Altogether 40 ambulances have been dispatched in various parts of the State to provide prompt service to pregnant mothers and infants up to one year of age", stated K Lokendro.

He suggested that more ambulances should be stationed in the hill districts as health care facility in far flung areas is poor.
Dr K Rajo said that such ambulance service has been already launched in various parts of the country.
The ambulance service launched today in the State would certainly bring positive changes in the health sector.
He urged the people not to misuse the ambulance which are provided to save lives of infants and mothers.
Ng Bijoy said that ambulance services was not well organized in Manipur earlier.
"But with introduction of state of the art technology, we would surely see a sea change in ambulance service", he added.
He urged the Health Department to provide well trained professionals for the service and requested all the concerned staff to work sincerely.
O Ibomcha stated that more ambulances would be pressed into service very soon and the same service can be availed in emergency cases for life support.
"The ambulance would be equipped with basic life support kits along with nurses and delivery equipment and the ambulances can be tracked using a GPRS", added Ibomcha.
He further said that the service would be round the clock and any pregnant mother or infants can avail the benefits by just dialling 102 .
He later urged the public not to misuse ambulances and restrain from making hoax phone calls.
Heirang Info, a private call centre company would provide the necessary information on the whereabouts of all the ambulances dispatched for emergency services.
