Commenting, Prof Yugindro told The Sangai Express that the eclipse was observed partially at Imphal, as the total lunar eclipse had its peak at 5:30 pm when the moon was far beneath the horizon.
"A total lunar eclipse occurs when the earth comes between the sun and the moon and forms a straight line so that the earth blocks any direct light from the sun to reach the moon", added Prof Yugindro.
The rare astronomical event was also captured in video for future references.
The eclipse is reckoned as one of the shortest lunar eclipse of the century, he added.
