Villagers demand action

The people of Sejang Theose village and Bongmol Tampak village of Khengjoy Block, Chandel district have threatened to seek judicial aid if the concerned contractor and agencies fail to finish construction of the 10 kilometre road connecting BRTF road to Malchom.
A press release issued today by the chiefs of the two villages stated that, the road was constructed by the MSRRDA in between 2010 and 2012, with a budget of Rs 2,54,47,484 under the 7th phase of PMGSY scheme.
As the road conditions deteriorated with time, the villagers requested the authorities concerned to repair the said road, it added.
According to the press release, the villagers found out that on October 25, last year, Rs 8,09,765 had been withdrawn on account of maintenance of the road although no work had been carried out.
The press release alleged that the act was akin to robbing the villagers of their right to life.
The contractor and the concerned agencies should finish all work before monsoon season, it pointed out adding that the State Government must take up appropriate actions against those involved.
