Tensions flare as supporters storm residence of another candidate

Tensions flared today as the supporters of a candidate stormed the residence of another intending candidate at Samurou under Wangoi A/C, Imphal West.
According to a source, a huge number of supporters, including womenfolk, of Salam Joy who was recently named as a BJP candidate, stormed the residence of an intending candidate Moirangthem Thoiba.
The issue began after the supporters of Salam Joy accused Thoiba's supporters of writing names of banned outfits over the wall poster of Joy which was pasted opposite Thoiba's residence, it added.
One Laishram Manaobi, a caretaker was rushed to Wangoi CHC due to injuries he sustained as the enraged supporters stormed Thoiba's residence and roughed him up.
Even the police had a tough time controlling the situation as supporters of both sides clashed with each other, the source added.
Strongly condemning the incident, Pukhrambam Ongbi Ichan, member of Nupi Samaj Chaokhat Khongthang Lup, Samurou said that the organisation will not take the matter lightly.
She further urged the people to refrain from getting swayed by rumours and carrying out such violent and unwanted behaviour.
According to the source, Thoiba was in Delhi when the incident occurred.
He was also vying for the BJP ticket, it added.
