Court frames charge against former RIMS Director

Maibam Manojkumar, Special Judge (Prevention of Corruption) Imphal West today framed charge against Dr S Sekharjit, former RIMS Director and four others regarding a charge sheet filed against them by Central Bureau of Investigation, Anti Corruption Bureau (CBI-ACB) in connection with the alleged financial irregularities during purchase of dental chairs.
Dr S Sekharjit of Singjamei Chingamathak, Chief Account Officer Cum Advisor RIMS Elangbam Devendro and proprietor of M/S Mukherjee Enterprises of Kolkata Subendra Mukherjee today appeared before the Court.
However, two other accused Principal of RIMS Dental College and Hospital Dr Rajiv Ratan Singh from Uttar Pradesh and former Medical Superintendent of RIMS H Shanti of Wangkhei Khunou filed a dispense petition before the Court.
The charge order asked Surendra Mukherjee whether he would plead guilty or not to which Surendra Mukherjee pleaded not guilty.
The Court fixed February 24 for the trial of the first prosecution witnesses of the CBI (ACB) trial case versus S Sekharjit and four others.
Sinam Sekharjit and the four others are framed under different sections of sections of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act punishable for criminal conspiracy, cheating and dishonesty.
On the other hand, the special Court framed charge against Subendra Mukherjee under section 120B/420/468 and 471 of Indian Panel code.
It may be mentioned that on March 31 last year, CBI (ACB) submitted a charge sheet before the Court after a case has been registered based on specific information regarding the criminal conspiracy allegedly hatched by the officers of RIMS and some private individuals while purchasing 38 dental chairs for RIMS Dental College, accessories and other equipment between January and June 2013 .
The CBI charge sheet said that the dental chairs were allegedly acquired at an inflated rate of Rs 3,75,000 per chair even dental chairs of the same standard were available at the market at Rs 1,31,000 per chair causing a loss of more than Rs 50 lakh to RIMS.
The tender notice for purchasing the dental chairs was issued by Professor S Sekharjit on January 15, 2013.However the notice did not mention the required number of dental chairs.
CBI (ACB) teams raid the houses and official quarters of Dr S Sekharjit, Rajiv Ratan Singh, H Shanti and Elangbam Devendro on September 12, 2014 from early morning till late night.
