Ukhrul, November 23, 2009:
A 24-hour bandh has been imposed in Ukhrul district by the Ukhrul District Light Vehicle Owners' Association which would be effective from the midnight of November 25 till midnight of next day.
The bandh has been called against the burning down of a taxi service vehicle (Marshal) on the night of September 19 on which 2006 Teacher Appointees Parents and Guardians under UADC called on, said president of the UDLVOA, C Horam today at a press conference held at Ukhrul district headquarter today.
The body has also decided not to extend cooperation to Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), the body behind the announcement of the bandh called on September 19 as "uncalled" and asked public not to support the same for their inaction even though UDLVOA plead for appropriate action.
The 2006 Teacher Appointees Parents & Guardians Association under UADC, called bandh on September 19 last in which Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) publicly announced that there is no valid reason to call bandh on that day.
On the same night around 9:30 pm at Hungdung Kazipphung sand quarry area volunteers burned down one vehicles of UDLVOA) taxi (Marshal).
Before they burn down the vehicle volunteers snatched away his mobile phone also onboard passengers were asked to leave the vehicle.
For the above incident UDLVOA lodged complained with the police as well as to TNL.
Inspite of repeated appeal and approach, police and TNL failed to give positive response till date.
Further they (UDLVOA) served ultimatum to TNL for the same reason that's when TNL asked UDLVOA to initiate the further case.
Since the case was initiated by TNL UDLVOA executive denied their advice.
We strongly condemned the inaction on the part of the police as well as TNL and unanimously decided not to extend cooperation to TNL and called bandh from the midnight of 25th till 26th November in Ukhrul district, Horam said.
The president further said that medical, fire services, schools & colleges, water supply will be exempted by the bandh.
He further said any untoward incident the UDLVOA will not be responsible.
He also appealed the public to extend their full co-operation with body during bandh hour.
