Imphal, October 01 2013:
Under the theme of "the motto@50: Pause, Rewind and Play", Naga Students' Union, Delhi (NSUD) would be celebrating its Golden Jubilee on October 7th, 8th and 18th, 2013 at New Delhi.
Announcing this in a joint statement, its President Lhusisato Iralu and Vice President Maivio J.Woba said that being one of the oldest students' organizations in Delhi, NSUD has made plan to commemorate its 50th anniversary elaborately and thoughtfully.
The main objective of the celebrations is to celebrate the unity NSUD has enjoyed in the past 50 years on the strength of the shared indigenous culture amongst its member- tribes.
The first leg of the celebrations will take place on October 7th and 8th, 2013.During this two-day, 'Indigenous Delight' a total of 16 traditional games will be played through organised inter-house competition.
These home games include archery, greased pole climbing, wrestling, basket binding, fire- making and yarn spooling.
The Naga F1 race, an innovative competition blending contemporary technical thinking with traditional mechanical and design practices, is expected to be the highlight of the 2-day event.
To participate, every submission must be a vehicle consisting of a wooden body and must be fully operational without the use of fuel.
The idea behind the 'Indigenous Delight' is to facilitate a cultural interface with those that live in and around the national capital, thereby seeking to create a 'pause' for an educative experience of our cultural past on the one hand, and to generate a renewed interest in a revaluation of our history in changing times on the other.
The event will also host several stalls offering a variety of culinary delicacies for sale.
The formal program to commemorate the Golden Jubilee year will be held on October 18th, 2013.For the first time in its history, the NSUD has instituted the 'Inspiration Awards' for a total of 10 categories namely, Literature, Sports, Music, Military, Academic, Enterpreneur, Missionary, Military, Medical and Social Work, as a mark of recognition of the winners' achievement in their respective fields.
The first president of the NSUD, Dr.Aryo Shishak, will be the Chief Guest of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, and the present DGP of Nagaland, Besesayo Kezo IPS, former NSUD General Secretary will grace the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
