Blood donation Day

The National Voluntary Blood Donation Day was observed today at Multipurpose Hall, DM College Campus under the joint aegis of Manipur State AIDS Control Society and State Blood Transfusion Council.
A rally was organised to mark the observance and create awareness on the need for voluntary donation of blood.
As chief guest of the observance function held this year under the theme 'Voluntary blood donation will cost you nothing but it will save a life', Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing announced Government plan for setting up blood bank units at Moreh subdivision, Senapati and other district headquarters.
Informing that blood bank units have already been opened at RIMS, JNIMS and Churachandpur district hospitals, the Minister expressed that existence of blood bank units would not serve the purpose if the people do not donate the vital human element generously.
Speaking as a voluntary blood donor, visually impaired Khundrakpam Premjit stated that he has been regularly donating blood since 1998 with the strong belief that his blood would be able to save atleast some lives.
Conveying that he has so far donated 43 times, he also called upon all concerned to donate blood as such noble gesture do not have any adverse impact on one's health.
Among others, Principal Secretary (Health & FW), MACS Project Director Shyam Lal Poonia and Manipur University NSS Cell Programme Coordinator Dr Ch Ibohal Singh were also present at the observance function.
