No need to Panic about Japanese Encephalitis

After the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis which has cost around 70 lives in Assam and few reported deaths in Arunachal Pradesh, Hueiyen Lanpao tried to find out the preparedness of the State Health machinery.
Th Nandakishor, State Nodal Officer Immunisation in an exclusive interaction informed that there is no need to panic and not a single case of Japanese Encephalitis is reported in the State since last year.
He also said that Churachandpur and Senapati districts are recognised as high risk areas in the State.
And the Japanese Encephalitis vaccination campaign for children between 1 to 15 years of age is underway in Senapati starting July 28, 2015 launched by Deputy Commissioner of the district.
Nandakishor informed that fifteen to twenty days vaccination campaign for Churachandpur had been completed in the month of May this year and routine immunisation will follow in due course of time.
He said that the Government of India is targeting only the school going children as they could not afford to vaccinate every citizen and the vaccination is done free of charge.
Nabakishor further stated that the routine immunisation for Japanese Encephalitis in the State had begun in a big way since 2011 and it has been going on in the four valley districts.
It is also informed that vaccination in Chandel has already been completed earlier as the district was vulnerable.
The state nodal officer also informed that the vaccination for Japanese Encephalitis is done on a daily basis at the Family Welfare Department, Bir Tikendrajit Road starting 10 am till 4 pm.
He also said that vaccination campaign is yet to be done at Tamenglong and Ukhrul districts as there has been no report of Japanese Encephalitis cases in the two districts.
He also informed that any suspected cases have to be reported to the health department for the follow up action.
