Imphal, July 29 2015:
Joint Students' Union of Government Higher Secondary Schools has said that the ongoing class boycott stir will continue until the police personnel responsible for Sapam Robinhood's death is punished.
In a statement, the union alleged that the State Government is trying to suppress the people's voice through military means flouting all the high ideals of democracy.
The union also strongly condemned the police action that took the life Sapam Robinhood stating that students would never be able to enjoy the Right to Education in a State where there is no Right to Life.
Slamming the Government for announcing that police would guard the educational institutes to resume classes, the union asked the Government not to deploy police within the radius of 100 metres of every educational institute.
At one point of time, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the Home portfolio, had said that police resorted to action against the agitating students under compelling circumstances.
However, the Government promised to institute a departmental enquiry and later ordered a judicial enquiry to probe the death of Sapam Robinhood after people erupted in mass protest.
The union also questioned why the Government is still defending the police personnel who is responsible for Robinhood's death.
