Chief Minister launches Make in Manipur initiative
O Ibobi Tells Entrepreneurs To Help Develop State For Self Reliance

Chief Minister O Ibobi on Thursday launched the "Make in Manipur for Employment Generation" initiative and stated that entrepreneurship should be encouraged to generate employment with an aim to make the State economically independent.
Attending the function, organised by Department of Commerce and Industries, Manipur at the City Convention Centre, as Chief Guest, O Ibobi stated that efforts should be made to generate employment since it is impossible to provide Government jobs to everyone in the State.
Entrepreneurs who can provide jobs to number of unemployed youths in the State have started emerging in Manipur and they should be encouraged, said the Chief Minister.
He recalled that many initiatives were earlier taken up by the Government such as the Spinning Mill and Khansari Sugar Mill under Public Undertakings but they were forced to shut down later.
The Chief Minister also mentioned the failure of Phase-1 of the Sericulture Project taken up in Manipur under Japanese aid.

Ibobi further stated that the State Government is planning to provide regular power supply if there were successful initiatives to establish industries in Manipur.
Government is also planning to convert the State into an IT hub and currently engaged in establishing infrastructure for information technology.
Many IT professionals of the State who are working outside will come back when Manipur is developed as a centre of excellence in IT sector, pointed out the Chief Minister.
He also said that efforts were needed to be given so as to increase the State's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) .
Attending the function as President, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that development in horticulture sector will also help in developing the State's economy.
Entrepreneurs need to be encouraged so that they could employ the educated youth and also promote work culture.
Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam stated that the State Government has given special attention to increase sericulture production.
Around 46 matric tons of sericulture raw materials are produced in the State but the Government is planning to increase the production to around 57 matric tons in the coming years.
Govindas also called the State's people to exploit the benefits of medicinal plants grown in Manipur and said that Government is planning to set-up one "flavour and fragrance centre" in the State.
MLA Elangbam Chand, Chief Secretary O Nabakishore, Sericulture Principal Secretary L Lakher, Commerce and Industries Commissioner VK Dewangan attended the function as Guests of Honour.
Officials of SBI, UBI and Manipur Rural Bank were also present during the function.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister O Ibobi on Wednesday opened a Biometric Access Point and CCTV Networking during a function organised by Department of Sericulture at Manipur Sericulture Project Management Complex, Sangaipat.
GIS web based project monitoring system was also introduced.
Post cocoon machines were also distributed to sericulture beneficiaries.
The function was attended by Sericulture Minister Govindas Konthoujam as President while MLA E Chand and Chief Secretary O Nabakishore were the Guests of Honour.
