Woman stabbed to death

One woman has been stabbed to death by an unknown assailant at around 5.15 this morning at Wabagai Thambal Chingya Cheirao Chingkhong.
The deceased has been identified as Chanambam (O) Gambhini Devi (57), w/o Chanambam Rajen of Wabagai Thambal Chingya.
Significantly the woman was killed just one day after the State observed the International Day For The Elimination of Violence Against Women.
The couple reportedly runs a small shop at Wabagai Thambal Chingya Cheirao Chingkhong, which is located 2 kms from their residence.
According to late Gambhini's husband Rajen, a young man aged between 25 and 30 was standing outside the shop when he woke up at around 5.15 am.
The young man asked for Talab which was not available in the shop.
The young man then asked for cigarette.
He then gave the cigarette and a matchstick and went to attend nature's call.
Gambhini was sleeping inside the shop at that moment.
Rajen said that, in the meantime, he heard Gambhini's scream.
When he ran out to check, he saw Gambhini being stabbed and the young man dragging her with a shawl tied around her neck.
He lunged and tried to push away the assailant.
During the scuffle, the assailant tried to attack him with the knife which was used to kill Gambhini.
Incidently, the knife broke during the struggle.
Rajen added that the assailant bit his nose after which he also bit his small finger.
The young man then managed to escape from his clutch.
With the help of local residents, Gambhini was rushed to Sun Hospital at Wabagai Lamkhai.
However, she succumbed to her injury.
A team of Kakching police and 22 AR personnel carried out an extensive search in the area with the help of a guard dog.
However, the assailant could not be traced.
A case has been registered at Kakching police station and the body has been deposited at JNIMS morgue.
The JAC constituted in connection with the killing of Gambhini has urged the department concerned to pull up the assailant within 48 hours.
The JAC further said that it will not collect the dead body unless the assailant is rounded up.
