Imphal, November 22 2015:
As per advice of elders and society's intellectuals, International Manipur Mothers' Association (IMMA) on Sunday held "Piba Chakouba" at the association's newly opened Canchipur Unit, Kha Naorem Leikai.
United Committee Manipur (UCM) President Elangbam Johnson, IMMA President Khuman Leima, social activists K Biren, Aribam Santikumar Sharma and Shahid Jabir attended the function as presidium members.
Urging the people to be united, UCM President E Johnson stated that people of Manipur irrespective of hills and valley should jointly celebrate the "Piba Chakouba" to know the true meaning of the occasion which has been celebrated in the State since time immemorial.
Founder President of National Research Centre S Bhubon said that hills and valley communities in Manipur can never be separated as the State will not survive without one another.
Production of agricultural crops in Manipur has declined as many farms and fields have been occupied by rich section of people to build schools, houses and other business related infrastructure.
People need to leave the wrong concept of staying fit by eating super fine rice and instead work hard to increase crop production and help in the growth of State's economy, added S Bhubon.
IMMA President Khuman Leima said that both the hills and valley people of Manipur need to be united to save the "Pibas" (men) of the State.
The association has from time to time acted as the interlocutor and intervened to bring an amicable solution when any unwanted tensions arose between the communities of the State, said Khuman Leima and promised to continue its good work for the welfare of the people.
The "Piba Chakouba" has been continuously celebrated by the association both in Manipur and outside the State to cement the bond of love between brothers and sisters.
