One-day awareness campaign on Swachh Bharat conducted

A one day awareness campaign on Swatch Bharat Mission and cardamom farming was held at Kodom Khullen, Purul Sub-Division, Senapati district.
Jacintha Lazarus, Deputy Commissioner, Senapati was the chief guest of the function.
The awareness campaign was organized to sensitize the villagers of Kodom Khullen, Kodom Khavii, Ngamju, Lakhamai, Shirong Khullen and Shirong Sofii on Swatch Bharat Mission and the potential of cultivation of cardamom as a key economic activity to address the socio-economic condition of the villagers.
Speaking at the programme, DC Jacintha Lazarus stated that the decision to take up cultivation of cardamom as one of the key economic activities must come from the villagers.
She said that a team of experts will be deputed for studying its feasibility and subsequently the project will be formulated after sending the proposal to the Spice Board of India.
She said every village should be self-reliant and not be dependent on the Government.
She also assured of assisting in construction of public gallery or community hall.
Addressing the gathering, Benjamin Tao, MDC Member, Lakhamai DCC said that program was organized to extend his gratitude for their support, to spread awareness on the Swachh Bharat Mission, and also to encourage farmers to take up large-scale cultivation of cardamom in the area.
Joykumar Singh, Agriculture Officer, Horticulture and Soil Conservation also spoke on the importance of cultivation of cardamom.
