Imphal, November 22 2015:
The 15th State conference of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) was held at today Sinam Shyama Devi town hall, Chingmeirong.
Attending as chief guest AITUC president Dr M Nara Singh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP Government at the Centre has failed to deliver its promise of 'Acche Din' (good days) even after completion of one and a half year in office.
The greatest error of the ruling Government is its attempts to amend labour laws which would only benefit capitalists and the corporate sectors depriving the working class of their rights.
The amendment to the Land Acquisition Act was yet another attempt to snatch away land from farmers only to be given to the corporate sector, Nara said.
Once Parliament amends Labour Laws, more than 70 percent industrial units with less than 300 workers will be out of the purview of the existing labour laws.
Expressing desire to strengthen the presence of the union, the AITUC president said the union hopes to see over 2 lakh people in its next State conference.
The union has been demanding measures for containing price-rise, containing unemployment through concrete measures, enforcement of the Food Security Act and all basic Labour laws, social security cover for all workers and provision of minimum wage of not less than 15000 .
Today's State conference has been organised to discuss the above stated demands, the union president said.
INTUC, Manipur, general secretary Y Ranapratap; CITU, Manipur secretary Ksh Santa; TUCC, Manipur president Kh Gyaneshwor; UTUC, Manipur secretary K Manoranjan and AITUC, Manipur secretary W Iboyaima Luwang were also present at the conference.
