Meetei Mayek will be on currency notes soon: Meinya

The day would not be far when Meetei Mayek would be seen on the currency notes of India, said Dr Thokchom Meinya, Lok Sabha MP today at the 28th Death Anniversary observance of Maisnam Debjani (Nono) Leima at Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur.
The observance was organised by Debjani Leima Foundation (DLF) in association with All Manipur Recognised Private School Welfare Association (AMRPSWA) Speaking as Chief Guest of the observance, Dr Meinya pointed out that Meetei Mayek was approved by the state government as the original script of Manipur in 1980.It was then made compulsory in school syllabus from 2006 onwards and students would be writing their matric exams in Meetei Mayek from 2015 .
An essay competition on "Laininghal Naoriya Phullogee Punsi Wari" in Meetei Mayek was held as part of the observance.
Takhellambam Asharani of Halley English School bagged the first position in the competition.

Angom Dinesh and Bidyasagar Thounaojam both students of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School jointly won the second position while the third position was won by Khwairakpam Loyanganbi Chanu, also of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School.
The first, second and third position holders were awarded cash prizes of Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 1000 respectively along with certificates and memento.
Secretary, Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, L Rajmohon; Member of Advisory Board of Pandam Journal, Kh Menjor Mangang; President of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) A Mobi; President of AMRPSWA, Ph Landhoni; Advisor of MEELAL Namoijam Tomba; Luching Ahal of Apokpa Marup Mangi Ningomba and Avdisor of AMRPSWA, N Tomba were also present as dais members.
Paying of floral tributes to the photo of Maisnam Debjani marked the occasion.
