Imphal, August 04 2014:
In solidarity to the ongoing demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State, a massive protest rally was taken out under the aegis of Sekmai Advance Women Society at Awang Sekmai Bazar today.
The protesters marched from Awang Sekmai Bazar and were planning to head towards Imphal.
However, they were stopped by security personnel near Sekmai Police Station.
There, a confrontation between the protesters and police personnel cropped up.
Later, the protesters staged a sit-in-protest at Sekmai Bazar.
Shopkeepers in the market also downed their shutters and took part in the protest.

On the other hand, staying off from their normal business, women vendors of Konung Mamang Ima Keithel staged a sit-in-protest at the market shed.
Shops and hotels nearby also closed down in support of the protest.
Speaking to media persons, one of the women vendors said that the fate of indigenous people is uncertain following unchecked influx of non-locals and the failure of the government to address the issue.
She stated that it is not the time for the government to wait for a positive response from the Central Government but to come up with all possible steps to implement the system here in the State.
She cautioned that an incident like that of June 18 may witness if the government continues to ignore the demand of the people.
As part of the ongoing demand, sit-in-protests were also staged at Kanto Sabal Leikai, Kongba Uchekon Khunou, Thongju Pechu Lampak, Thongju Chingonglei Makhong, Wangkhei Angom Leikai and Uripok Sorbon Thingel.
Several placards reading, 'Implement ILP in the State', 'Save indigenous people', 'Stop entry of non-locals in the State' etc were used at the protests.
