Transporters protest

Condemning the alleged attempt to abduct Secretary of JAC Tiddim Road Bus Owners' Association, B Dhanabir, State transporters today staged a sit-in protest at Keishampat Lairembi Community Hall.
It can be recalled that D Lunkhulen Haokip, President of Churachandpur-Imphal Taxi Owners' Society; David Zanminthang, 1st IRB Havildar; six personnels from Assam Rifles allegedly attempted to abduct B Dhanabir.
However, due to timely information given to police by Dhanabir, all the involved individuals were arrested.
Resolving to suspend service for 24 hours from Sunday midnight the agitators demanded arrest and termination of David Zanminthang from his job and imprisonment of Lunkhulen Haokip.
TDC President H Ranjit asserted that bribing an IRB personnel to carry out such unlawful act is unfortunate and the State Government should take up steps to penalise transporters, who are involved in criminal activities.
He also demanded that the involved Assam Rifles personnels be legally penalised for their involvement.
