Imphal, July 29 2011:
Two youths suspected to be an activist of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (Wareppa) planted a hand granade outside the residence of a contractor
near here Friday.
The two rogue youths came on a grey Activa today at the residence of Laishram Birendrajit (41), a contractor, asking for his contact number when he was not at home, said Birendrajit's brother Jiten Laishram.
After having replied that his brother was not home and that he did not remember his number, the youths left, he said.
Later Jiten discovered that a Chinese made hand grenade was placed on top of his brother's car parked in the courtyard by the two youths.
Taking to mediapersons, Birendrajit observed that the bomb may have been placed by the Wareppa faction of KCP who have been demanding contract works since a month ago.
He said that his contact number on which the KCP used to call has not been functioning due to technical snag because of which the demanding party was unable to contact him.
He had in the meantime changed his number.
Recently, they reestablished contact with him on his new number, seeking another contract work related to construction of DM College campus wall which was denied, he said, adding that their failed attempt to contact him may have provoked them to resort to placing a bomb at his residence today.
Meanwhile, a team of Lamphel police has safely retrieved the bomb at around 3:51 pm from the spot.
