An amount of Rs 200 crores have been sanctioned for construction of Shangsak-Tengnoupal road, stated MLA Wungnaoshang Keishing during a benedictory function held at his Babupara quarters today.
The function was attended by a large number of Pastors, village chiefs, student leaders, representatives of women organisations and social workers.
The main feature of the function was a joint prayer session hailing the Almighty for the works undertaken and to be taken up in future by Phungyar AC MLA Wungnaoshang Keishing.
Speaking at the occasion, Wungnaoshang said that Chief Minister O Ibobi and Works Minister K Ranjit recommended construction of the 224 Kms long Shangshak-Tengnoupal road.
Subsequent to the recommendations, the Government of India has sanctioned Rs 200 crores for the road project.
The State Cabinet has also given its consent to the BRO to start executing the road construction from April next year.
Once completed, this road would become the lifeline of Kasom Khullen and Phungyar sub-division, Wungnaoshang stated.
Rev Diamond, Rev Huimi and Rev Ringapai also spoke at the occasion.
Wungnaoshang further appealed to the authority concerned to complete due process of the expert review committee for rehabilitation and resettlement of the people affected by Thoubal Multipurpose Project so as to ensure that due compensation is paid before the project is commissioned.
Saying that the villagers have been yearning for implementation of the agreements signed with the Government, Wungnaoshang cautioned that resorting to repressive measures against aggrieved people would not be advisable.
