Imphal, July 29 2011:
With the deadline served for repairing the deplorable road stretch of National Highway 39 (Imphal-Dimapur road) from Koirengei to Pheidinga expiring yesterday, the aggrieved local residents have enforced road block along the said road stretch from today.
In response to the call of local Youth Development Club, people residing on either sides of the road stretch came out to enforce road block since early morning today.
Along with burning of tyres in the middle of the road, they also prevented movement of vehicular traffic along the said stretch.
While the road block was being enforced, an official team of the PWD led jointly by Works Minister and the Principal Secretary arrived at the scene on their way to Maram to inspect the condition of the National Highway including the site where landslides have occurred recently.
A large number of agitating womenfolk stood in front of the vehicle of the Minister to prevent the official team from going ahead.
It was only after the police on duty in the area controlled the agitated womenfolk, that the Ministerial team could move on.
