Re-alignment of Mao-Maram road soon

Imphal, July 29 2011:
State Works Minister K Ranjit today inspected the landslide prone area of Mao- Maram road today along with the officials of Public Works Department and announced that the state is planning a re-alignment under the Special Accelerated Road Development Project (SARDP) .
Ranjit told media persons that the government is taking up necessary steps to make NH 39 in a tip top condition but it is hampered by frequent landslides.
This stretch of about 23 kms will be re-aligned as a long term strategy of the state government under the SARDP.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has been proposed to allot an amount of '100 crores for the re-alignment.
The Ministry has approved the proposal and a team from the Ministry's side had inspected the stretch of the road.
The re-alignment process will take some time.
The construction of NH 39 was previously allotted to the BRO.But due to slow progress the work had been later allotted to the PWD by a cabinet decision.
An amount of ' 7 crores was sanctioned in January this year for the periodical repairing of the road.
The work was halted due to monetary demands made by an UG outfit.
The Minister said, rupees 39 crores for the construction of 27 kms long Maram to Taphou road has been sanctioned.
Further an amount of ' 11.5 crores for the construction of a 9 kms long Taphou to Changloubung road has also been sanctioned apart from the '13 crore sanctioned for the construction of the road from Tengdongyang to Koirengei.
He further appealed to the people of Senapati to co operate in the process.
The Minister and his team also inspected the work progress of the Mini Secretariat built in Senapati.
He was disappointed with the condition of the work.
He personally called the contractor in charge and ordered to re construct the doors and windows which had been made without quality control.
He said that the Mini Secretariat of Ukhrul district has been inaugurated and the Mini Secretarait of Senapati and Tamenglong will be inaugurated in September.
Principle Secretary, Works, Ram Muivah , Chief Engineer, PWD M Lokeshor and other top officials of PWD accompanied the Minister.
