With MLA Mairembam Prithviraj charged with providing false information in his affidavit submitted for contesting in the last election to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly, Opposition parties in the State are all charged up to press for disqualification of Prithviraj.
Prithviraj got elected from 27-Moirang Assembly Constituency as a Congress candidate defeating his nearest rival candidate P Sharatchandra Singh of NCP in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election held in January, 2012.Prithviraj is presently the Parliamentary Secretary in charge of Youth Affairs and Sports
P Sharatchandra had earlier made a complaint to the Returning Officer alleging that Prithviraj gave false information in his affidavit by mentioning that his highest qualification was MBA.
But it was years later that the issue reached the ears of ECI which subsequently directed the CEO, Manipur to check whether the information provided in the affidavit was false or true.
As a result, CEO has further directed the Returning Officer of 27-Moirang Assembly Constituency for doing the needful.
According to the guidelines of ECI, an elected MLA could be disqualified if any of the information given in the affidavit were found wrong.
Taking advantage of the ECI instruction, the Opposition parties are gearing up to press for disqualification of MLA Prithviraj.
