According to a statement, the issues raised by the PLHIV's from New Canaan village during the interaction included non-providence of OI (Opportunistic infections) medicines and vitamin and iron by Govt ART centre except ARV medicines; difficulties in transportation to the hospital; ART Center subscribing OI medicines but not supplying to the PLHIV.
They also highlighted that PLHIV were referred to private clinic for investigation (kidney, LFT, HB%, L/Profiel test), although testing facilities are available in the hospital.
Highlighting that they faced some problem in CD4 test conducted on them, they also complained that doctors are often unwilling to conduct the test like HCV and Viral load test and referred them to Kolkata.
Pointing out that the PLHIV who were to give birth through Caesarian Section were asked to purchase double surgery kits like hard glove apron etc, the PLHIV said ART centres in Govt hospitals are not providing services for investigation free of costs.
No proper counselling service given to the PLHIV in ART center, lack of knowledge and understanding for the PLHIV in treatment adherence and regarding their drugs resistance are also highlighted during the interaction programme.
The PLHIV also presented that they are self-stigmatised, faced discrimination from society, abused by doctors, and outcast.
It has also been learnt that the PLHIV lack awareness and knowledge on Govt welfare schemes meant for them.
