Imphal, April 26 2013 :
The Zeliangrong Baudi, Manipur (ZB-M) has opined that the Alice Kamei issue should not be painted as the Zeliangrong organisations confronting the Revolutionary Peoples Front (RPF).
Rather, it should be that of safeguarding the school going girl's rights and to uphold the international laws on the child's rights.
"The Alice Kamei issue shoud never be taken as a dispute between the AZSU, ZYF and ZSUM and the RPF/PLA but an issue to protect children from being misled to take up arms under-age," asserted Zeliangrong Baudi, Manipur.
"Every right thinking organisation or leader should voice against Alice Kamei being recruited into a militant outfit because the school girl is still considered a minor which is very much the gross violation of international laws," the ZB-M added.
It then said the stand of Zeliangrong Union (ZU) and Kabui Mothers Association (KAMA) on the issue is 'unfortunate'.
"Genuine civil society organisations and activists should support the ongoing movement to secure release of the school girl," the ZB-M stated while adding, "We will fully endorse the steps taken up by AZSU, ZYF and ZSUM in this regard" .
