IGNTU-SU calls bandh, alleges MoU violation

Imphal, May 25 2012:
With the authority of IGNTU, Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh giving no positive response to the demands for cancellation of the recruitment drive in IGNTU- Regional Centre, Manipur scheduled on May 27, an emergency meeting of IGNTU-Students' Union (IGNTUSU) has decided to call a bandh in five hill districts and two National Highways with effect from 5 am of May 26 to 5 pm of May 27 .
Announcing this in a statement, Assistant Information Secretary of IGNTUSU Mahaishang Shimray reiterated that the present recruitment drive scheduled on May 27 is in violation of an earlier MoU signed between the student body and the Vice Chancellor, who represented the University authority on October 24, 2011 wherein it is resolved that no further appointment will be made until settlement of the reservation policy.
Shimray categorically stated that the student body would stick to the MoU and would never compromise under any circumstances.
He also appealed to all the district students' organizations concerned, individuals, intellectuals and every community to extend fullest co-operation to the bandh being called in the larger interest of the tribal community in the state.
Meanwhile, endorsing the demands of the agitating IGNTUSU, All Colleges Tribals Students' Organisatioon, Manipur (ACTSOM) and Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU) and Thadou Students' Association, Chandel district, in separate statements, have announced their respective decision to support the bandh being called by IGNTU-Students' Union, Regional Centre, Manipur from 5 am of May 26 to 5 pm of May 27 .
