PCI team to arrive today

On a fact finding mission about the safety and security of journalists, an 8-member official team of Press Council of India (PCI) would be arriving here tomorrow at around 4:20 pm.
The PCI team led by Kosuri Amarnath as the convener would arrive at Imphal after visiting some of the North Eastern States where they would be taking into stock the situation in which the media persons are working.
As the Convener of PCI is equal in rank to a Union Cabinet Minister in the protocol, the team is accorded the status of State Guests whenever they visit in any part of the country.
However, the Manipur Government is yet to declare the visiting PCI team as State Guests as of now.
Nevertheless, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) has taken up all the necessary arrangements for giving due regard and honour to the visiting Team PCI when they arrive here tomorrow.
On September 25, the PCI team would be interacting with the media persons of the State at the Old Secretariat from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm to listen to their grievances.
Later, the team would meet Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam,Principal Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu and the Director of DIPR, W Rajen to take report on the welfare schemes taken up for the journalist fraternity in the State, if there is any.
After discussing the details of the reports thus collected, the PCI team would be submitting its fact finding report to the.
