Imphal, September 23 2013:
Vehemently condemning the police crack down on MIT students who were peacefully staging a sit-in yesterday at the alleged instigation of the incumbent Principal In-charge of the institute, Th Kula-chandra Singh, the Manipur Institute of Technology Teachers' Association (MITTA) has demanded the immediate removal of the Principal who derived pleasure in watching his students running helplessly due to the police action.
Pointing out that the students have been launching their stir since Sept 13, a statement issued by MITTA chided the Principal in-charge for neglecting the demands of the students.
It further said he even does not bother to thrash out the matter with the staff till today.
Meanwhile, the Manipur University Student Union Revival Demand Committee has strongly denounced the alleged silence of the Manipur University's authority over the demand of the MIT students so far.
Condemning the crack down on the students who were staging democratic agitation, the MUSU RDC statement said it would not remain a silent spectator if the authority fails to redress the matter immediately.
Incident of students being forced out from their hostels and seeking refugee in a relief camp/local community hall might be the first such instance in history, the MUSU RDC said while saying that the concerned Principal and MU authority would be held responsible for any unwanted incident happening to the students who are at the relief camp.
It also urged the authority concerned for immediate revival of MUSU.
At the same time, the Reformist Students' Front (RSF) said the crack down on students at MIT was very unfortunate while urging all concerned to reach an amicable solution to the problem.
