Asian Theatre Festival kicks off

Asian Theatre Festival which will continue till November 28 as part of the ongoing Sangai Festival kick started on Sunday at Chandrakriti Auditorium.
The opening ceremony was attended by Chief Secretary O Nabakishore as Chief Guest and Government of Manipur consultant Dr RK Nimai as President.
Art and Culture Secretary, Government of Manipur K Radhakumar; Tourism Secretary, Government of Manipur Nidhi Mani Tripathi and Tourism Director, Government of Manipur Shyamlal Poonia attended as Guests of Honour.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chief Secretary O Nabakishore said that the Asian Theatre Festival will give a new flavour to the visitors of the Sangai Festival.
Dr RK Nimai stated that various dying art forms of Manipur have been displayed in the Sangai Festival at Hapta Kangjeibung with an aim to preserve and promote them.
Dr Nimai also called on all to preserve the long practice of performing arts in the State.
A total of seven theatre groups will take part in the Theatre Festival.
On the first day, NT Theatre Manipur staged its "Mangshat" written by Niladhaja Khuman and directed by Ningthouja Deepak.
