Poacher held, animals rescued

Imphal, June 18 2014:
During a raid in some paddy fields of Lousi pat area, Thoubal Police Commandos of Kakching apprehended one poacher along with 4 large bird nets and rescued two spotted doves from him yesterday, a release of PFA, Thoubal said.
The arrested poacher has been identified as Khuleibam Muffizudin(32) S/o (L) Niamalik of Sora Ching Wangma, while his associates numbering around 5 are still absconding.
Two of the fled poachers have been identified as Pukhrimayum Anwar Khan (50) and Pukhrimayum Nawaz Khan (15) both of Sora Ching Maning according to the police records.
The rescued doves were handed over to PFA for necessary care, while the arrested poacher was compounded a sum of Rs 5,000/- by the concerned forest office.

Meanwhile, PFA has appealed to the DFO, Thoubal and OC Kakching Police station to apprehend the absconders at the earliest.
In another event, one large tortoise was handed over to PFA by one Kenedy Chakpram of Yairipok kekru Mathak.
Kenedy reportedly bought it at Rs.1500 from a labour of Yairipok who does cement work at Tamenglong, and the labour had bought it from Tamenglong Market for its meat.
With the help of Wildlife Trust of India, PFA has identified the 10 kg weighed tortoise as Asian Brown Tortoise or Asian Forest Tortoise.
This is the largest Asian tortoise species, said the PFA statement, adding that this tortoise is considered as endangered by IUCN and included in appendix-II by CITES.
PFA said that the tortoise which has an injury on its back probably made by a knife to make a hole for tying will be released at a suitable site after it recovers from the injury.
PFA further informed that one Yengkokpam Gobi Singh of Singjamei Thongam Leikai also handed over a Malayan Box Turtle to PFA.
He found it near his house on a rainy day.
