Imphal, April 04 2015 :
Apart from admitting the disqualification petition filed by three indivi-duals against Lok Janashakti Party (LJP) MLA Karam Shyam, the Manipur Legis-lative Assembly Speaker's Tribunal has fixed April 24 for final hearing of the petition.
Meanwhile, BJP member Kakchingtabam Saratchandra of Singjamei Top Leikai has submitted a written appeal to the Assembly Secretary to take up disciplinary action against Karam Shyam's counsel Advocate Khaidem Mani for breach of privilege.
K Shyam elected from Langthabal A/C on LJP ticket was supporting the Congress Government and sat on ruling bench for a long period.
It was only after LJP president and Union CAF&PD Minister Ram Vilas Paswan advised Shyam during his official visit to Imphal sometime back that the MLA withdrew his support from the Congress Government and sat on opposition bench.
The petition which sought disqualification of MLA K Shyam was jointly filed by Kakchingtabam Saratchandra, N Momon Meitei and Kh Vimal.
After perusing the petition, the Speaker's Tribunal fixed April 24 for the petition's final hearing.
Speaking to some media persons at the library complex of Educational Guide Centre, Singjamei parking today, K Saratchandra said that LJP central leaders turned their back to the UPA Government and joined BJP-led NDA Government on March 3, 2014 .
Notwithstanding the central leaders' decision to part ways with Congress-led UPA and ally with NDA, Shyam continued supporting the Congress Government of Manipur.
Taking serious note of the contradictory positions adop-ted by LJP central leaders and Karam Shyam, a disqualification petition was filed at the Speakers' Tribunal on October 18, 2014 against the latter.
The Speakers' Tribunal should decide whether the disqualification petition filed under the 10th Schedule should be admitted or rejected.
The petition filed at the Speakers' Tribunal is now a prerogative of the Speaker.
But Advocate Khaidem Mani told media on January 16 last that the disqualification petition filed against Karam Shyam was unreasonable and should not be admitted by the Tribunal.
It was against this particular statement of the MLA's counsel that a written appeal was submitted to the Assembly Secretary to take up disciplinary action for breach of privilege.
Saratchandra added that a complaint would be lodged at the Bar Council of India seeking cancellation of lawyer's license given to Advocate Khaidem Mani.
K Shyam is the only LJP MLA in the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
He stunned many poli- tical pundits when he defeat-ed MPP heavyweight O Joy in the last Assembly election.
