Manipur pays homage to Gandhiji on his 146th birth anniversary

Mahatma Gandhi was remembered on his 146th birth anniversary with leaders of the State paying homage to him on the occasion which is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti across the country.
Chief Minister O Ibobi was the Chief Guest and his deputy Gaikhangam was the President of the function held at Gandhi Memorial Hall on Friday.
Delivering a speech on the occasion, Chief Minister Ibobi noted that Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, always wanted the practice of non-violence and upholding unity.
Recognizing his principle, the United Nation declared October 2, the birthday of Gandhi, as the International Day of Non-Violence in 2007.Since then, the day has been celebrating as a global function.

Gaikhangam also spoke during the event.
He interpreted that Gandhi's meticulous sense of cleanliness is not meant for mere external gaze but also for the "inner self" too.
Later, the Chief Minister led the participants in paying floral tributes at Congress Bhavan where the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) celebrated the birth anniversary of Gandhi.
Chief Minister O Ibobi, Deputy CM Gaikhangam, Congress ministers, MLAs and workers attended the function held at the Congress Bhavan too.
On the sidelines of the event, Chief Minister Ibobi told the media that the State Assembly had passed the three Bills for which assent of the President was waited.
He however stressed the importance of ascertaining the contention of the people from the hill districts that the three Bills impinged on their tribal rights.
Ibobi said that all problems can be solved through talks by coming to the negotiating table.
He clearly stated that the State Government will deal firmly with any policy that hurts Manipur's interest and its integrity.
Answering a question raised by media, Ibobi exuded confidence that the construction of Sanjenthong bridge will be completed before the upcoming Sangai Festival 2015. Gaikhangam also spoke to the media after the function.
He called upon all people from both the valley and hills to strive for stability, harmony, non-violence, peace and unity.
