Senapati/Mao/Maram, October 02 2015 :
Different civil society bodies and denizens of Senapati district have expressed concern over poor repairing works of NH-2 .
An executive of Senapati District Student's Association (SDSA) said, "It has become an annual affair of public demanding for repairing the poor condition of one of the lifelines of the State although the demand has failed to capture the attention of the authorities concerned to maintain the said highway especially the stretch between Koirengei and Mao gate" .
The highway is blacktopped for the name sake and deplorable condition returns as usual every year, he said.
Poor drainage system coupled with landslide and continuous plying of overloaded trucks without any regulation have worsened the condition of the highway, he added.
A village leader residing near NH-2 said, "Some unclogging works of drainage along the highway were seen in the last few days at Senapati district Hqs but due to the lack of funds for the construction of concrete drains, people are still suffering" .
Urging the State Government and PWD (Highway Division) to execute quality works and carry out regular repairing works as per the standard norms, a woman leader said that unless serious steps to construct good roads are taken up, the highway would continue to remain deplorable.
It may be mentioned that the Centre had sanctioned Rs 9.59 crore for the repairing of highways including NH-2 (Imphal-Mao stretch) .
Blacktopping works between Senapati and Mao were executed last year, but by the end of monsoon season, the condition is likely to aggravate if no major repairing is done at the earliest, the student leader said.
PWD must invest all its efforts to keep the lifeline in better condition, he said.
Many Senapati denizens expressed concern over poor repairing works executed by contractors.
