The central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in its endeavour to reach out to the people living in remote villages, particularly the younger generation, and sustain cordial relationship with the civilian population sponsored a football tournament at Irang, Tamenglong district.
The 'friendship football tournament' held for inter community/village competition was hosted by Taobam Youth Club under the sponsorship of 69 Bn CRPF at Taobam football ground from January 29 till February 4 .

Participated by 12 teams from the surrounding areas, the final match featured Taobam Youth Club and Taobam Sporting Club with the latter clinching the title and Rs 10,000 cash prize with a 2-0 victory.
The closing programme was graced by the presence of Additional dC (Tamenglong) Joseph Paulin as the chief guest, and CRPF Commandants UB Mishra (69 Bn) and Sengupta (86 Bn) as the guests of honour.
While the runners-up side was presented Rs 7000 and tournament sponsors extended Rs 15,000 as referees' charge, cash prizes of Rs 5000 each were also handed over to winners of best player, best goalkeeper, and highest scorer categories.
Earlier, in his speech during the inaugural function on January 29, UB Mishra expressed that goodwill shown by the people when the CRPF conducted a civic action programme at the same area has 'tempted' the para-military force to initiate another venture through sponsoring of the football tournament aimed at rekindling spirit of sports and discipline.
Exuding confidence that the event would definitely help the village youth nurture their talent, the unit Commandant also called upon the younger generation to remain vigil against destructive elements whose presence amid the people threatens to impede pace of development.
Pointing out that Manipur has produced outstanding sportspersons in weightlifter Kunjarani Devi, and boxers Dingku Singh and MC Mary Kom, UB Mishra stated that participation in the community programme and events would certain promote in cultivating good habits and good sports.
He also distributed sports materials including T-shirts, track suits, football boots, socks, knee caps, gloves and shin guards to players of all the 12 teams.
