It's only good news all the way for Manipur when it comes to performing arts.
The Spirit of Performing Arts Centre, Manipur has eclipsed many cultural troupes from big and powerful countries and won the best of the best performances award at an international folk festival held in Thailand.
Manipuri folk dance was declared 'the best of the best performances' of all the fifteen participating countries in the recently held 5th Surin International Folklore Festival held at Surin Province Thailand.
Informing this today T.Mangibabu, the government chief whip who is also a Member of Legislative Assembly said that the Manipuri artists performed superbly at the Thailand festival.
The festival was organized with a view to restore peace and harmony across the world.
A total of 15 countries including Israel, India, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, USA, China and the host country, Thailand and others participated in the festival.
India was represented by Manipur and Nagaland.
Notably, this is the second time Manipur had participated in the festival while Nagaland was reportedly participating it for the first time.
Fifteen participants including well known artists from Manipur who had performed in the 10-day 5th Surin International Festival, was led by T.Mangibabu Singh and M Prithviraj under the banner of SPIRIT performing Arts Centre, Manipur
The Manipuri participants presented different items of dances such as Thougal Jagoi, Laiching Jagoi, Kabui Jagoi, Thang Chainaba, Stick dance in that festival.
A paper "History of Traditional Textile Industry in Manipur" was presented by Dr.L Kunjeshwori Devi, associate professor, Manipur University during the festival at the International Conference on January 19 .
The Manipuri team also participated the World Peace programme on January 23 at the Watsalaloy Temple, Jamboree and International Fashion Show on January 20 .
The festival that kickstarted on January 14 was held at Rajabhat University.
It concluded on January 24 .
