With a view to infuse encouragement to the women of today, the three-day 3rd Women Quinquennium Fellowship under the theme 'Arise and Shine' is underway at Makui Liangchi village, Senapati district which kick-started on February 4 .
The 3rd Women Qinquennial Fellowship ceremony, a mammoth programme of the Liangmai women was organized by Liangmai Naga Baptist Association (LNBA), women wing which has been participated by over two thousand Liangmai women coming from various places.
Participating in the function, Thangminlien Kipgen, Member of Legislative Assembly and also chairman, Hill Areas Committee, Manipur presiding as the chief guest of the function stated that the old idea of a patriarchal society must be left behind and the women must take part in developmental activities of the society for building the careers of the children.
While insisting the women of today to leave behind the traditional norms of remaining silent at homesteads, Thangminlien asserted that it is the right time for the women to bring about significant changes in the society by participating in the field of sports, education, cultural and traditional activities.
He also assured the gathering to take up the developmental projects such as construction of roads in the area.
While stressing on the role of women in the present day, Athuan Abonmai, social worker presiding as the guest of honour of the function maintained that the women must now show their potentiality, capability and responsibility to the society.
Athuan Abonbai also harped on the need of the women folks to distinguish what is bad and what needs to be done for the society sayng that modern women are now educated lot.
Meanwhile, various cultural programmes were showcased during the programme which was participated by Liangmai villagers hailing from the other hill districts such as Tamenglong and Senapati.
The uniqueness of the Makui Liangchi programme is that all the participants are adorning various traditional attires of the Liangmai community.
The programme will conclude tomorrow (February 7) .
