Kakching, July 27 2021:
Chief Medical Officer of Chandel Dr Serthani Serbum has expressed concern over absence of anesthetist and specialist doctors in medicine in Chandel district.
The CMO conceded that the healthcare centres in the district could not operate efficiently in case of any shortage of requisite medical practitioners.
Speaking during a meeting with Japhou Bazar Authority/Board chairman HL Lordson Anal along with Ethar Erur Media at his office on Tuesday to discuss the present situation related to Covid-19 in the district, Dr Serthani recounted that the need for medicine and anesthetist doctors has been long felt in Chandel district hospital apart from many other needs.
The surge in Covid-19 positive cases has made the need for anesthetist and medicine specialist doctors even more urgent, he said and maintained that availability of ICU unit and its equipment in the district hospital without a specialist anesthetist is meaningless.
The team later visited Medical Superintendent Dr Joyson Monsang, who also highlighted the need for anesthetist and medicine specialist doctors in the district hospital.
He further mentioned the need for technical staff to operate the newly installed digital X-ray and ultrasound machines.
Meanwhile urging the people to strictly follow the SOP and get vaccinated without delay so as to flatten the curve of Covid-19 infection, District Surveillance Officer Dr Shakchung Serbum stressed the need for early detection of Covid patients and keeping them in isolation.
