Imphal, July 27 2021:
Commemorating the deletion of the controversial phrase 'without territorial limit' from the agreement signed between the government of India and the NSCN-IM on June 14, 2001 in the aftermath of intense public protests, All Club Organisation, Association and Meira Paibi Lup (ACOAM Lup), Kangleipak on Tuesday observed Integrity Protection Day.
In a release, ACOAM Lup stated that it along with the people has been observing the 'Integrity Protection Day' on July 27 every year to mark the day when the government of India was compelled to drop the controversial phrase 'without territorial limit' from the June 2001 pact due to unprecedented public pressure.
The inclusion of the phrase in question in the said agreement was not in the interest of the people of Manipur as it posed threat to the territorial integrity of the state, it said, adding that the commemorative event was held in a simple manner in view of the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.
ACOAM Lup noted that people of Manipur have steadfastly faced every challenge posed to the state's territorial integrity and unity.
However, there is still a big question mark on whether the 2015 agreement signed between government of India and NSCN-IM will affect the integrity of Manipur or not.
On the other hand, the state government must adopt effective strategies and measures to fight Covid-19, as imposition of lockdown and curfew is not helping in bringing down the number of Covid-19 positives cases in the state, it further stated.
