Imphal, July 27 2021:
While expressing happiness over the stupendous performance of Saikhom Mirabai Chanu in the Tokyo Olympics and making the entire people of the country and state proud by bagging the silver medal in weightlifting, Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) prayed for success of Mirabai in her future sporting career.
According to a CADA statement, collective efforts need to be put in by people of the land so that more players like Mira-bai could be produced to make Manipur known throughout the globe.
It also noted with regret that huge consignment of contraband drugs worth crores of rupees continued to be seized in Manipur almost every day particularly along Imphal-Moreh road and there had been report of emergence of drug manufacturing units.
Drug problem in Manipur society cannot be taken lightly as law enforcing agencies and politicians are being linked to huge drug trafficking cases, the CADA statement said, adding that it is time to bring a collective understanding that silent drug war could completely uproot a society.
Unless this drug problem is effectively dealt with, leave aside Manipur producing Olympian in near future, there is fear of complete decimation of the community, it added.
Stressing the need for early completion of National Sports University construction to produce more players at international level, CADA also called for improving sports infrastructure in Manipur to world class standard while reminding that the existing infrastructure were developed in 1999 when Manipur hosted the National Games.
