Govt to tighten grip on UGs

Imphal, July 13 2014: With bomb blasts and killings continue unabated in the state, the Government of Manipur has decided to rein in militants with more stringent actions.

On Sunday, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said the underground groups have tested the government to the limit.

"We have tolerated as much possible as we can and now our patience is being pushed to the limit" .

Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh was speaking to the media persons on the sidelines of inspecting the under construction Sanjenthong (bridge) and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) at Porompat where an examination hall, an auditorium and the administrative block are being constructed as well as the new Secretariat building at Mantripukhri, in response to questions on the IED blast that left 6 civilians injured at Langthabal and killing a member of Autonomous District Council (ADC), Ukhrul in ambush laid by suspected militants at Finch Corner yesterday.

The Chief Minister said, "We will employ all possible strategies to rein in the undergrounds as they have crossed the limit" .

While inspecting the ongoing construction work on a new four-lane bridge at Sanjenthong, CM Ibobi reiterated that his government is targeting to complete the bridge by November this year as certain amount of time has to be taken considering procurement of essential materials from outside the State.

The main parts of the bridge are to be constructed with materials manufactured in UK.

This means that it will take at least 3-4 months to reach the materials here.

He said that the government is keeping top priority on Sanjenthong Bridge amongst the construction works and projects taken up at present in the State.

Accompanied by Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar and other officials of Public Works Department (PWD), the Chief Minister also inspected the progress of the ongoing construction work on the administrative block, examination hall and auditorium of JNIMS at Mantripukhri and Secretariat building at Mantripukhri.

While inspecting the ongoing works at JNIMS, the CM expressed disappointment over the slow work progress there and instructed contractors engaged in the construction to complete the works by December of the year as a team of Medical Council of India (MCI) will be visiting the hospital for inspection in January next year.

Though works for Administrative Block and Examination Hall of the hospital are going in full swing, it need to be sped up and completed by December of the current year to appease the MCI team, the CM added.
