Lamka, February 28 2013:
The Kuki State Demand Committee has today announced that it has suspended the indefinite public blockade imposed since last Sunday in view of the ongoing HSLC and HSSLC exams but with a pledge to launch other courses of agitation.
Announcing their decision to suspend the blockade from 7.30 pm Thursday in view of the frantic appeals made by KSO GHqs, the KSDC said its executive committee has however resolved to launch another course of agitation.
The KSDC statement issued by S George Guite has meanwhile slammed the Government for turning the Kuki inhabited areas in the present State of Manipur into a military garrison to ensure safe passage of the BCIM Car Rally.
'The Government, instead of addressing the legitimate demand of the Kukis had imposed 144 CRPC and dispersed the peaceful protesters with an iron fist, which is totally against the principle of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi and fundamental principle of the largest democracy, India,' said George.
He also claimed that the BCIM Car rally meant to herald a new era of regional co-operation and social development was greeted with black flags and placards.
Business establishments and educational institutions in Moreh were closed for the day, he said adding the Kukis are not against progress but it should not be at the cost of their rights.
