Learners' assessment to be conducted in State on Mar 9

The Government of India with a target to make all women from 35 years of age and above literate by March 2014, the 8th assessment of the Nationwide Learners Assessment will also be conducted in the state on March 9 for the year 2013-2014, said Directorate of Adult Education Commissioner, B..BSharma during a press meet held at the conference hall of the Directorate office at Babupara here today.
He also mentioned that the SLMA/Directorate of Adult Education, Manipur have alredy started the preparations.
The National Literacy Mission Authority (NLMA) in collaboration with National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), Delhi has been conducting this nationwide assessment/ test of basic learners in the months of March and August every year since 2010 across the country.
The question and answer booklet (QAB) for the purpose will be done by NIOS, New Delhi, while the evaluation of the QAB will be conducted by District Lok Shiksha Samities (DLSS), the evaluated datas will be submitted to NIOS, New Delhi through SLMA, Manipur.
As regards the the initial targets made during the last seven assessments for the four districts of Manipur namely, Chandel, Senapati, Tamenglong and Thoubal, were 14,648 for Chandel, 16,737 for Senapati, 11,579 for Tamenglong and 34, 299 for Thoubal district.
The successful figures maintained for the four districts upto August 25, 2013 were 9171, 15689, 8664 and 32168 respectively.
While for the upcoming assessment of the state to be held on March 9 of this month, the targets would be 5336 for Chandel district, 375 for Senapati district, 2737 for Tamenglong district and 639 for Thoubal district.
The DLSS district implementing Authorities' have also completed identification of Exam Centres and Exam functionaries like Exam in charge (i/c), Observers and Invigilators and that most of the exam centres will be conducted in the schools and school teachers would be the exam i/c, invigilators are Preraks and observers are Block Co ordinators.
There would altogether be 132 exam centres, 132 exam i/c, 137 invigilators and 128 observers in total in the four districts of the state.
Officials from DAE, New Delhi, NIOS and SRC, Shillong will be visiting the state to take part in monitoring and supervision of the exams and DAE/SLMA and the state has made preparation for smooth conduct of the exams in consultation with DLSS.
At the state level, the exam control room at the Directorate of Adult Education will monitor the progress of exams by collecting information from the District Control Room AT District Headquarters and other monitoring and supervision teams and the information collected will be reported to NLMA.
While at the district level, one district control room will be in each district stationed at the District Headquarters and it will look after the entire proceedings of exam at the district level and communicate information to the exam control room of the Directorate of Adult Education/SLMA.
The ongoing programme taken up by the Directorate of Adult Education/State Literacy Mission Authority, Manipur is Saakshar Bharat (literate India) Programme which was launched on January 15, 2010 .
This programme has been implementing in the districts having women literacy rate of 50% or below in the 2001 census.
In Manipur, districts having such literacy rates are Chandel, Senapati,, Tamenglong and Thoubal, for which the programme is being implemented in these four districts of the state.
The objectives of Saakshar Bharat Mission are basic literacy, basic education, skill development and continuing education.
The district wise figures for the four districts with the opening of Literature Learning Centres (LLC) after household survey is 77,263 adult illiterates as identified as target group and enrolled in the LLCs.
Regarding Adult Education Centre (AEC), a total of 257 AECs were established in the four districts and 514 Preraks were engaged.
Additional director of Adult Education, Md.Abdus Salam, officials and staffs of the department were also present at the press meet.
