Imphal, October 02 2016:
AMSU has accused DESAM of misleading the media and general public in connection with the violent confrontation that took place at Keishampat near DESAM office yesterday in addition to allegedly attempting to create hostility among different communities.
Speaking to mediapersons at their DM College campus office today, AMSU general secretary Manjeet Sarangthem said that amidst the din which accompanied declaration of election results for CC Hr Sec School Students' Union, a report was received about the abduction of one Moirangthem Bobyson, a first semester student of the college, being allegedly abducted by some students of DESAM.
Subsequently, a team of AMSU volunteers led by Coordination and Networking secretary Soibam Anil went to DESAM office to enquire about the report.
But they (DESAM volunteers) turned the table against AMSU and triggered a series of untoward incidents, Manjeet said.
AMSU has photographs and video clips of the excesses committed by DESAM volunteers, he claimed.
AMSU Coordination and Networking secretary Soibam Anil who encountered the incidents said they left two two-wheelers on the road side opposite to DESAM office.
Four of them went inside the office and asked if M Bobyson was there.
After one DESAM volunteer replied in the negative, the team raised the same question to DESAM president Angamba.
He replied, "No means no" .
As the AMSU left DESAM office, some DESAM volunteers armed with clubs came out of their office and pelted stones at the AMSU team forcing the latter to run away, Anil recounted.
In the meantime, Roshan Golmei of Hiyangthang who was victorious in the election of CC Hr Sec School Students' Union was taking out a victory parade on the way to his home.
On seeing the victory parade, more DESAM volunteers came out of their office and joined the offensive initiated by their colleagues.
They also set ablaze three vehicles.
"DESAM's allegation that my team came to their office with petrol, pelted stones and tried to set it afire is baseless", Anil said.
They (DESAM volunteers) even tried to stop fire fighters from dousing the fire, he added.
Moirangthem Bobyson said that he was taken captive by some DESAM volunteers at around 4.40 pm yesterday.
They asked Bobyson to support Ishordas who would be contesting in the Students' Union election of DM College of Science.
In the meantime, ruckus broke out at DESAM office and Bobyson was led away to a house.
Manjeet said that DESAM was hatching a conspiracy to create animosity among different communities with a view to achieve some of their objectives.
The violent confrontation that took place between two groups of students had nothing to do with AMSU.
Since its establishment much before the birth of DESAM, AMSU has been striving for communal harmony and unity.
It has also been taking pro-active roles in many public issues, Manjeet.
He went on to ask as to why DESAM volunteers attacked Roshan Golmei if they do not see any difference among different communities.
If anything untoward happens to Moirangthem Bobyson, DESAM should be held accountable, he added.
