MEELAL to hold essay competition in Meetei script

As part of the 9th anniversary observance of introduction of Meetei script in the school syllabi by the State Government, which falls on May 18, Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) will organise an essay competition in Meetei script in the four valley districts of the State on April 26 .
This was informed by MEELAL vice-president M Naokhamba while speaking to reporters today.
He said that MEELAL has been conducting the competition every year to encourage students to learn Meetei script.
This year, the competition would be held in five categories, Naokhamba said and added that apart from top-three position holders 25 other students would be selected for consolation prizes in all the categories.
For the students reading in class IX and X, another essay competition on a topic related to ILPS would be conducted, he added.
MEELAL would bear one year's school fees for all the first position holders of the competition, he added.
Saying that more than 3700 students have submitted application forms till today, Naokhamba said that issuance of admit cards has also commenced from today.
Informing that the last date of form submission is April 25 Naokhamba expressed hope that the number of competitors would exceed 4000 .
He also said that the competition would be held in 14 different schools of the four valley districts.
In this regard, Naokhamba urged all concerned not to impose any bandh or general strike on April 26 .
The prize distribution of the competition would be held at GM hall on May 18 .
On the other hand, Naokhamba also appealed to all the Principals and founders of the school to include Meetei script in their school logos imprinted on school uniform, text books and bags etc before May 20 .
Expressing concern over giving punishment to some students of RK Sanatombi Vidyalaya by a teacher of the school for imprinting Meetei script on their school logo, Naokhamba requested the Principal of the school to come at MEELAL office before April 30 to discuss the matter.
