Imphal, December 01 2015:
The KNO and UPF today issued another joint statement appealing to other armed groups to desist from taking steps that can hurt the senti-ments of other people and upset the larger tribal unity.
The armed groups made the appeal on the backdrop of a stone that was erected on November 20, 2015 at Aimol Satu reportedly to affirm that the Aimol people are one of the Naga tribes.
Claiming that the stone erection exercise was carried out under pressure from certain armed group, the two groups made a fervent appeal to all concerned to desist from activities that can upset the tribal unity.
'There is no better time than today where we should maintain mutual strive for tribal unity.
The Aimol tribe of Manipur is a relatively small community, their distinct existence, historical and ethnical roots deserved to be appreciated by all in accordance with international human rights philosophy,' it said.
Both the KNO and UPF would like to maintain mutual respect and peaceful coexistence with all communities in Manipur, particularly with the other hill tribes of the State.
"It is our humble appeal to the armed groups, to discontinue their adversarial activi- ties towards the Aimol people in the interest of the larger tribal unity," added the statement.
